President Jacob Zuma gathered over 600 followers after joining millions around the world on Twitter Tuesday.
Zuma opened his Twitter account Tuesday morning under the name of @SAPresident. He also took the Twitter platform and dispersed the message that all South Africans should go and vote during local government elections due next week.
“Democracy is flourishing in South Africa, thanks to the active participation of all citizens. It’s wonderful. Vote 18 May,” Zuma said on his first post on Twitter via an iPhone.
The presidency announced that Zuma has engaged himself on Twitter just after his first Tweet was posted on his. It urged people to follow the president on the account “@SAPresident”.
Twitter users responded to the call in just few hours with close to 6 000 followers. Apart from all the members followed, Zuma only follows the Presidency.
Presidential spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said that the president “Zuma” has opened his Twitter account engage himself in informing the South African public on his programmes.
Most politicians have used the social networking platforms to gain voters to vote for their party during the local government elections on the 18th of May.
